GOP senator donates to Alabama Democrat in controversial race: ‘Country over party’

Republican Sen. Jeff Flake (Ariz.) took to Twitter on Tuesday to disclose that he made a donation to Alabama Democratic Senate candidate Doug Jones in protest of Republican candidate Roy Moore.

Moore has been accused of pursuing sexual encounters with teenage girls when he was in his early 30s. One of the accusers, Leigh Corfman, said she was just 14 when Moore molested her.

What did Flake say?

“Country over Party,” Flake tweeted alongside a $100 personal check made out to the Jones campaign.

Flake’s disclosure comes after Trump endorsed Moore on Monday. The president reportedly called the embattled candidate to offer him his support.

Democrats refusal to give even one vote for massive Tax Cuts is why we need Republican Roy Moore to win in Alabama. We need his vote on stopping crime, illegal immigration, Border Wall, Military, Pro Life, V.A., Judges 2nd Amendment and more. No to Jones, a Pelosi/Schumer Puppet!

Putting Pelosi/Schumer Liberal Puppet Jones into office in Alabama would hurt our great Republican Agenda of low on taxes, tough on crime, strong on military and borders…& so much more. Look at your 401-k’s since Election. Highest Stock Market EVER! Jobs are roaring back!

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters at a Tuesday press briefing that Trump “decided that it was better to have somebody that supports his agenda than a Democrat that doesn’t.”

Flake, who has made his opposition of Trump publicly clear, said at a Nov. 17 event in Arizona that the GOP will be “toast” if it becomes a party defined by Trump and Moore. Flake announced Oct. 24 that will not seek re-election in 2018.
